Capsaicin is the hot constituent of cayenne pepper, which has been  shown to be potentially beneficial for weight management.

Cayenne Pepper & Weight Loss
There are 3 ways that capsaicin may aid weight loss:

1. Thermogenesis
Capsaicin enhances diet-induced thermogenesis (metabolism). This is where it converts calories into heat, thereby increasing energy expenditure and resulting in weight loss.

Studies have shown that thermogenic substances may increase energy expenditure by 4-5% and fat oxidation by 10-16%. They have been suggested for use to overcome the reduction of metabolic rate during weight loss. Other natural thermogenic substances include green tea, oolong tea and white tea.

2. Fat oxidation/burning
Capsaicin can increase fat burning and inhibit fat accumulation. This improves body composition as there is higher proportion of lean body mass (lean muscle) to fat tissue.

3. Appetite Control
Capsaicin may help in managing appetite. In one study, capsaicin (and green tea) was shown to suppress hunger and increase satiety.

Cayenne Pepper Supplement
Cayenne or hot chilli pepper is a spice that adds flavour and heat to food. If you can tolerate the pungency, then include some cayenne/hot chilli pepper in your meals.

Otherwise, you can take it in a supplement form for the metabolic boost and fat burning.

People who are taking blood thinners, have bleeding, gastrointestinal disorders or ulcers should consult with your doctor before taking this supplement.
